Umesh Bhattarai

Research and Personal Statement
Umesh is from Nepal. He graduated from Tribhuvan University in Nepal with a Bachelor of Science. He majored in microbiology and chemistry. Umesh completed his master’s degree in Basic and Medical Physiology from B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in 2012.
The topic of his research for his master’s degree was “Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus”. After the completion of his master’s degree, he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Physiology in Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital, where his responsibilities were teaching medical physiology to medical, dental, and nursing students.
After working as a lecturer for almost 5 years, Umesh came to the United States to pursue higher education. He completed a Master of Biomedical Sciences at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) at Shreveport. After graduating from LSUHSC, he joined the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at UMMC as a PhD student.
Umesh is currently working under the supervision of Dr. Yingjie Chen. His current project is studying the role of IL-12α in the development and progression of pressure overload induced heart failure. After graduation, Umesh plans to pursue his postdoctoral training.
